~ It was a perfect match of song and movie ~

They’re really ought to be a wing in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Cameron Crowe and his soundtrack choices. Paul Westerberg’s Dyslexic Heart acted as the title track for the movie, but this one was its heart and soul.

Andy’s lyrical themes and offbeat phrasing (is he implying that substitute teachers aren’t ladies?) are hallmarks of Mother Love Bone tunes. The background vocals over the last 90 seconds, are something even drunk you can handle singing along with at the end of the night and not feel like you’re just phoning it in. Stone’s sliding riffs at the end are definitely emblematic of this album, as well (check out the opening 2 tracks for more of them).

It’s a slow rolling build, especially with the harmonics in the midst of the tune. Seriously, how many classic tunes have harmonics that build around the main riff like this one?

By the end of it though, with the soaring sheets of 12-string guitar shimmering over Andy woods majestic locals, it’s an all-time classic.

Thanks for checking out Six Degrees of Radio, and grooving along. If you don’t give this article the finger, or, y’know… a thumb, then I don’t know if you’re digging it or not.
