I’m not sure this article is nearly harsh enough. If all the out-of-position versatility and recruiting of players missed by the ‘traditional’ US youth system was actually working, shouldn’t we have seen any kind of progress after 5 years? We’re just going backwards and failing at every juncture where we face a legitimate challenge that’s been routinely overcome in past cycles (Olympics, Gold Cups, etc)
